Posted by Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty on Sunday, November 19th, 2023 at 3:34pm
As winter settles in, the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions gear up to throw down some great holiday and seasonal events. Forget the marshmallow fluff – we're talking about everything from charming, lit-up villages to local markets that would make even the Grinch crack a smile. As The Local Experts in Upstate Real Estate we're spilling the beans on the most happening holiday gatherings in the Counties we serve. So, whether you're a local looking for new traditions or a visitor wanting to dive into the holiday spirit - we've got your ticket to the festivities that matter. Let's cut the tinsel and dive into the real deal holiday scene in the Hudson Valley and Catskills.
The Turkey Trots
Where: Across the Hudson Valley
Is there anything more fun than a turkey trot? No! They're super fun! The air will be bracing, the costumes will be ridiculous, the fun will be had by all. Pre-burn your green bean casserole with a run or a walk and meet some new people (or turkeys). Hudson Valley Magazine put together a short list of Turkey Trots in Beacon, Cold Spring, Poughkeepsie, New Paltz, Saugerties, Troy and Windham. Here are a few more...
2023 Annual Catskill Parade of Lights
Where: Catskill, NY
Main Street in Catskill will sparkle on Friday. Come into town, shop, see shimmering floats, hear festive music from local musicians, and feel the warm glow as lanterns along the streets light up the town and our hearts.
Kingston Snowflake Festival
Where: Kingston, NY
Join us for this annual event that kicks off the December holidays for us! Dancers, firetrucks, singers, juggling people on stilts, ice carving and wishing our clients, friends and neighbors "Happy Holidays" as we pass out treats and light-up balloons in front of our Kingston location. This is a wonderful celebration of the season that brings everyone into the streets of Uptown Kingston. Our office at 268 Fair Street will be open, just across from the Volunteer Fireman's Museum. We can't wait to see everyone.
Classical Music: Windham Festival Chamber Orchestra: Basically Bach
Where: Tannersville, NY
If you feel like this weekend is too soon for Holiday music but have a yen for classical, this is your chance. Come December 1st, it will be Handel, Handel, Handel and maybe a little Gounod here and there, but you can catch this wonderful selection of Bach at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center before the Hallelujah Chorus starts to ring out across the mountains.
RubbleBucket Pizza Party
Where: Glen Falls House, Round Top, NY
Rubblebucket, a brass and vocals duo, is coming to the super-cool Glens Falls House for a Pizza Party. This actually sounds like an incredible non-holiday themed event. If you're not familiar with Rubblebucket, here's their Tiny Desk Concert and if you don't know the Glens Falls House, here's a look.
Roost Arts Holiday Gala
Where: New Paltz, NY
Here's another great way to shop local, support artists, and make a difference all at the same time.
"A tradition in New Paltz since 2016, Roost Arts returns, after a Covid-enforced hiatus, with an array of tiny sweet pieces of art for your enjoyment. We will be showing and selling an array of tiny artworks donated by artists in the Hudson Valley and beyond. You will enjoy champagne, delicious holiday treats, music and schmoozing with artists, students, patrons and art lovers! Your participation and donation will benefit student artists through the ROOST BOOST Art Scholarships. Since 2018, Roost Arts, through the generosity of supporters like you, has awarded over $10,000 to help student artists achieve their goals through art."
Sinterklaas Hudson Valley
Where: Rhinebeck
We are HUGE fans of Sinterklaas. It's an unexpectedly magical day of community, lesser-known holiday traditions, dancing in the street, music, drum banging and crafts in the beautiful Village of Rhinebeck. The day ends with a parade through the darkened streets, illuminated by giant puppets and stars. You'll be enchanted and moved, even if you come every year. Don't miss it.
Holiday Craft Faire At The Ashokan Center
Where: Olivebridge
The Ashokan Center always has the most low-key, lovely events on offer. Their holiday faire is no different. As an antidote to big-box and internet shopping - they give visitors the chance to make snowflakes, natural wreaths, felted soaps and creative items in their tin shop. There will be food, hot beverages, music and good country fun.
The Polar Express On The Catskill Mountain Railroad
Where: Kingston
From Kingston to the North Pole and back. Take a magical ride in an antique railroad car and read along with the classic children’s book, The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg, and spend a special afternoon with someone who will enjoy it. Santa and his elves will make an appearance and give each child an on-theme gift.
We hope that each of you have a wonderful Holiday Season. Come to us with your questions about these events, the area, and Upstate real estate!
