All About Outside
This summer everyone in New York State has an inside=bad, outside=good mindset. Luckily, outside is what we do here! So, here are my recommendations for ways you can really enjoy the outdoors this summer. Dig right in!
Ashokan Rail TrailEveryone is loving the Ashokan Rail Trail that opened in the fall and was recently completed. 11.5 miles of beautiful Ulster County scenery to enjoy on foot, wheels, or paw. Click here for all the details. |
Go SwimmingWhere can you get in the water!!!??? It doesn't matter what else is going on; it's summer, and it's hot. If you don't have a friend Upstate with a pool, here are some places where you can cool off. Hudson Valley Magazine made a handy list... |
Hidden HikesThere are many articles on the internet that suggest the same 7 or 8 hikes in the Catskills & Hudson Valley. When you go on those hikes, guess what happens? Everyone is there too! I looked out for a list of hikes that were a little more off the beaten path (ba-dum-bum-ching!) In addition to this list you should consider hopping on the Appalachian Trail - no one's on it this summer! There are half a dozen access points in Dutchess & Putnam Counties - and when you finish, you can say you hiked the AT! |
PaddleI know, kayaks and paddle boards aren't exactly household items. If you've already invested in one, you probably don't need me to tell you where to put it in the water. But for those of you interested in trying it out, there are rental shops open this summer offering one or both. The staff at these shops can point you to places that are open, some even run tours. A Day Away - Kingston | I Paddle NY - Saugerties | New Paltz Kayaking | Atlantic Kayak Tours - Staatsburg | The River Connection - Hyde Park |
